ALER and LACLIMA promote pre-COP31 dialogue to strengthen cooperation among Portuguese-speaking countries
ALER and LACLIMA, within the framework of the CPLP Energy and Climate Thematic Commission of Consultative Observers, held the online event Towards COP31: Priorities and Perspectives of CPLP Countries on 1st October 2026.
The non-public initiative aimed to create an informal space for dialogue and preparation among CPLP countries, promoting the exchange of national perspectives, the identification of common priorities and greater coordination among delegations ahead of COP31, which will take place in Antalya, Türkiye.
The session brought together representatives from Angola, Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal and São Tomé and Príncipe, as well as the CPLP Executive Secretariat, ALER, RELOP and LACLIMA. Several areas of common interest were identified, including accelerating the energy transition, improving access to climate finance, advancing climate adaptation and increasing the visibility of CPLP countries in international energy and climate decision-making processes.
Among the main outcomes of the dialogue was the need to deepen cooperation among Portuguese-speaking countries, promote greater information-sharing in Portuguese and identify opportunities for collaboration during COP31, including the coordination of agendas, events and joint initiatives.
The event forms part of the efforts of the CPLP Energy and Climate Thematic Commission to support the preparation of CPLP countries for COP31 and contribute to more structured cooperation on energy, climate and sustainable development issues.
