ALER participates in the Africa Energy Forum 2026

ALER participated in the Africa Energy Forum 2026 (AEF) in Cape Town (South Africa), following the main debates on energy, financing and infrastructure shaping Africa’s energy transition. The event, held between 16th and 19th June, highlighted the growing priority given to project implementation and the mobilisation of investment to deliver on the energy commitments made by African countries.

One of the central themes of the forum was Mission 300, an initiative aimed at expanding access to energy across the African continent. During the event, it was announced that the initiative has already provided access to electricity to more than 50 million people in 40 African countries, recording a pace of implementation higher than that observed in the initial phases of the programme.

With national compacts moving into the implementation phase, discussions focused on turning commitments into concrete, bankable projects. In this context, ALER continues to follow the implementation of the initiative in Portuguese-speaking countries and to support the mobilisation of climate finance, at a time when markets are demanding increasingly high levels of project readiness, structuring, and bankability.

Clean cooking was another key topic, consolidating itself as a priority that goes beyond the energy sector and plays an increasingly important role in health, climate, and gender equality. The forum also highlighted the growing interest of international financiers in this area, which is beginning to establish itself as an independent financing field, complementary to electrification initiatives.

For ALER, this is a strategic area of intervention in Portuguese-speaking countries, and a regional initiative is being prepared to promote clean cooking solutions across the CPLP space.

AEF 2026 also underscored the importance of regional energy corridors and interconnections between countries as decisive factors for attracting private investment and accelerating the integration of African energy markets. Regional cooperation was widely recognised as an essential condition to enhance infrastructure development, strengthen energy security, and create more attractive markets for investors.

The discussions also reinforced the vision of Africa as a strategic actor in the global energy transition, thanks to its renewable energy potential, critical mineral resources, and the role it can play in supplying sustainable energy.

ALER’s participation in AEF 2026 made it possible to closely follow the main trends shaping the African energy sector, reinforcing its work in promoting regional cooperation, mobilising finance, and implementing sustainable solutions in Portuguese-speaking countries.
