Guinea-Bissau validates 2025 National Energy Balance

The National Energy Information System Cell of Guinea-Bissau (SIE-GB) organized the 2025 National Energy Balance Validation Workshop on 18th September 2026, a strategic tool for the planning and development of the country’s energy sector.

During the workshop, the importance of the National Energy Balance as a key instrument for public policy formulation, financing mobilization and evidence-based decision-making was highlighted. The document compiles information on Guinea-Bissau’s main energy sources and carriers, including petroleum products, gas, electricity and biomass.

The 2025 National Energy Balance provides an analysis of energy production, consumption and access in the country, as well as the challenges associated with dependence on imported fuels, electricity system losses and the need to accelerate the expansion of energy access.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the consolidation of these data will strengthen sector planning capacity, support the development of more effective public policies, attract private investment and enhance cooperation with development partners.

The workshop brought together government representatives, national institutions, development partners and energy sector experts, reinforcing the importance of producing and validating reliable data to support Guinea-Bissau’s energy transition and sustainable development.
