New solar panel manufacturing facility to be established in Mozambique

Construction has begun on a new industrial facility dedicated to the production of solar energy equipment at the Beluluane Industrial Park, in Maputo Province, representing a further investment in the development of Mozambique’s renewable energy industry.

The project is being developed by the Chinese company Lumira Moz Energy and will establish an integrated facility for the production of photovoltaic cells, silicon wafer cutting and the manufacturing of high-efficiency solar modules. The plant will cover approximately 1.6 hectares and will be implemented in two phases, with an investment of more than US$10 million in the first phase alone.

According to the developers, the investment could help strengthen Mozambique’s participation in the solar energy value chain by promoting industrial diversification, the development of specialised skills and the growth of the national clean energy industry.

The new facility will be located in the Beluluane Industrial Park, managed by MozParks and currently the largest industrial hub in Mozambique. The park hosts more than 70 companies and benefits from strategic connections to the ports of Maputo and Matola, as well as to the South African and Eswatini markets.

The initiative represents another step towards strengthening manufacturing capacity linked to the energy transition and the development of Mozambique’s solar sector.
