Briefing: Renewables in Mozambique 2025

The “Briefing: Renewables in Mozambique 2025” was launched during RENMOZ 2026 on 11th June in Maputo. Developed by ALER and AMER, with the support of GET.invest Mozambique, the publication brings together key data, trends, regulatory developments, and investment opportunities in Mozambique’s energy sector.

More than a statistical compilation, the Brief has established itself as a strategic tool for investors, public institutions, project developers, and all stakeholders involved in the development of renewable energy in Mozambique.

The 2025 edition provides an updated overview of the transformation of the national energy sector at a particularly significant moment for the country. Among the main indicators, it highlights the increase in the electrification rate to 66.4% in 2025, the growing share of renewable energy in the national electricity mix, and the projected significant growth in installed capacity over the coming years.

The document also tracks the main regulatory and institutional developments in the sector, including the implementation of the new Electricity Law, progress in off-grid energy access, and the operationalisation of the Energy Transition Strategy (ETS).

Investment and financing are also central themes of the publication. In a context where the financing needs identified by the ETS exceed USD 18.6 billion by 2030, the Brief analyses the challenges associated with capital mobilisation, project structuring, and the increasing participation of the private sector.

The 2025 edition also includes updates on grid-connected renewable energy projects, electricity transmission, self-consumption and distributed generation, green mini-grids, solar home systems, clean cooking, and carbon markets.
