MCA signs agreement to build the first Sustainable Schools in areas covered by its electrification projects in Angola
MCA (an ALER Member) has signed cooperation agreements with Angola’s Ministry of Education, Agostinho Neto University (UAN) and the National Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (INEFOP) to build two sustainable schools in the municipalities of Luau and Cazombo, in the province of Moxico Leste.
Part of the company’s social responsibility programme, the initiative seeks to extend the impact of energy and electrification investments to the areas of education, vocational training and local development. Together, the two schools will provide 19 classrooms and have the capacity to serve up to 1,520 students per day across two daily shifts.
The new facilities will be developed in the same territories where MCA is implementing renewable energy and electrification projects. The electricity required to operate the schools will be supplied by the company’s photovoltaic plants, contributing to a more sustainable educational model adapted to local realities. Access to electricity will also enable extended use of the facilities and support vocational training activities.
The Luau school will include 12 classrooms and capacity for more than 900 students per year, while the Cazombo school will have seven classrooms and capacity for more than 500 students per year.
The project also incorporates sustainable construction principles, making extensive use of locally sourced clay and recycled wood from pallets used to transport solar panels for MCA’s photovoltaic projects. School furniture will likewise be produced from these materials through the Recycle Project, involving local young people in vocational training programmes certified by INEFOP.
According to MCA, the initiative aims to leave a legacy that goes beyond education infrastructure by promoting skills development, employment opportunities and sustainable development within local communities.
