Angola presents the Power System Expansion Master Plan and announces the 2nd International Conference on Energy and Water

Last week in Luanda, the Angolan government presented the updated Electricity System Expansion Master Plan (PDESE) – Agenda 2050, reaffirming electricity as a strategic pillar for national development, industrialization, and social inclusion. The initiative was led by the National Electricity Transmission Network (RNT-EP).

During the event, Secretary of State for Energy and Water, Arlindo Carlos, emphasized that reliable, affordable, and sustainable access to electricity is essential for economic growth and improving citizens’ quality of life. The PDESE adopts a long-term vision for a more resilient and financially sustainable electricity system, laying the groundwork for the integrated expansion of generation, transmission, and distribution through 2050.

The plan enhances sector predictability and creates conditions to attract public and private investment, addressing the challenges of population growth and universal access to electricity. Representatives from ENDE and RNT highlighted the sector’s recent progress and underscored the PDESE’s role as the key planning tool for Angola’s national electricity system.

Also last Friday, the Ministry of Energy and Water launched the 2nd International Conference on Energy and Water, to be held in Luanda on 28th and 29th May. The event will gather government officials, investors, experts, academics, and national and international business leaders to discuss key challenges and opportunities in the energy and water sectors, focusing on sustainable solutions, technological innovation, and strategic partnerships.

Alongside the conference, a Technology Exhibition Fair dedicated to the energy and water sectors will take place, creating an integrated space for reflection, knowledge sharing, and showcasing innovative solutions. The event launch was presided over by Minister João Baptista Borges, who highlighted its strategic importance. The conference is held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço.
