IRENA Assembly strengthens international cooperation in renewable energies

The International Renewable Energy Angency (IRENA) held its 16th Assembly, reaffirming the relevance of its mandate at a pivotal moment for the global energy transition. As underlined by Director-General Francesco La Camera: “IRENA continues to grow, a testament to the relevance of our mandate and the shared conviction that cooperation on renewables has tangible value”.

The Assembly brought together several Portuguese-speaking countries, with Angola marking a milestone through the signing of its first Power Purchase Agreement, with Masdar, for the Qiipungo solar PV project.

Alongside the Assembly, the Global Coalition for Energy Planning (GCEP) — launched under Brazil’s G20 Presidency and secretariated by IRENA, and recently joined by ALER — convened a high-level roundtable focused on “From Planning to Investment”.

For ALER, the GCEP is fully aligned with its 2030 Cooperation Roadmap on Energy and Climate in CPLP Countries, particularly Pillar 1 – Energy Planning, which aims to strengthen planning frameworks as a foundation for mobilising investment and accelerating project implementation in Portuguese-speaking countries.
