RENMOZ 2026: where projects found investment and generated business

Held on 11th-12th June in Maputo, RENMOZ 2026 – the 5th Renewable Energy Business Conference in Mozambique once again affirmed its position as the leading platform bringing together projects, investors, financiers and decision-makers from Mozambique’s energy sector. Over two days, the conference was marked by announcements, agreements, strategic networking and new investment opportunities aimed at accelerating the country’s energy transition.

With more than 600 in-person participants and 40 B2B meetings, RENMOZ 2026 highlighted the growing momentum behind Mozambique’s renewable energy sector. The private sector accounted for 33% of participants, followed by financial institutions and development agencies (24%) and government and public sector representatives (23%), confirming the conference’s role as a key platform for coordination among the various stakeholders in the energy ecosystem.

During the opening session, Mozambique’s Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Estevão Pale, underlined the importance of renewable energy in expanding energy access and driving the country’s economic transformation. “Achieving energy access, industrialising the country, creating jobs and increasing the competitiveness of the economy require major investments, and the private sector plays a central role in our vision for achieving these goals”, stated Estevão Pale.

This message was echoed by Ronald Münch, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Mozambique, who stressed the importance of partnerships and the Team Europe approach in accelerating project implementation. “The focus of this RENMOZ agenda is to move from opportunity to concrete implementation, and partnerships are essential for that. Germany, as part of Team Europe, is committed to bringing together all actors in the energy sector to accelerate project delivery on the ground”, said the diplomat.

“AMER believes that the best of Mozambique is still ahead of us. AMER will always stand alongside those working to move this sector forward”, said Ricardo Pereira, President of AMER, reaffirming confidence in the potential of Mozambique’s energy sector.

For Mayra Pereira, President of ALER, RENMOZ is a space for decision-making and continuity, where dialogue must lead to concrete outcomes. “RENMOZ exists to create the conditions for decisions to happen, for conversations to continue after the conference, for the right stakeholders to meet, and for the trust needed for investment to be built”, she stated.

Throughout the event, several instruments and initiatives aimed at accelerating project implementation were announced and formalised. Key highlights included the presentation of PROMIR-MZ, the announcement of a mini-grid tender to be launched in the second half of 2026, the signing of the PURE Subsidiary Agreement, progress under the PROLER programme, and the signing of the ElectriFI financing agreement with Source Energia.

RENMOZ 2026 also hosted several sessions dedicated to presenting concrete investment opportunities. EDMHCB and GMNK presented projects representing, together, more than USD 7.7 billion in investment opportunities across generation, transmission and energy infrastructure. In the mini-grid segment, FUNAE and ARENE identified investment opportunities associated with seven pre-clusters, 100 locations and nine potential productive-use applications were also identified.

The conference also marked the launch of the 5th edition of the “Briefing: Renewables in Mozambique”, which confirms the positive evolution of the sector. According to the publication, Mozambique’s electrification rate reached 66.4% in 2025, while installed capacity is expected to grow from 2.9 GW to 9.5 GW by 2032, with renewable energy maintaining a dominant role in the national electricity mix.

On the eve of the conference, ALER moderated, within the framework of the Mozambique–EU Business Forum 2026, a session dedicated to investment opportunities in renewable energy in Mozambique (news here), previewing some of the key themes later discussed at RENMOZ. During the event itself, ALER also organised a session on regional energy cooperation within the CPLP and supported AICEP in organising a meeting focused on the opportunities offered by the Global Gateway initiative for the Mozambican market (news here).

Organised by the Mozambican Renewable Energy Association (AMER) and ALER, in partnership with the European programme GET.invest, funded by the European Union and Germany, RENMOZ 2026 benefited from the support of Mozambican authorities, the European Union and several international partners under the Team Europe approach, as well as from the strategic partnership of SNV.

At a time when Mozambique is seeking to accelerate universal energy access, strengthen its generation and transmission capacity, expand the off-grid sector and consolidate its position as a regional energy hub, RENMOZ 2026 reaffirms itself as a key platform linking vision, strategy, financing and implementation.
